Before you apply

Requirements vary by lender and finance type. A broker can explain the likely information and documents before anything is lodged.

Can someone help me work out which loan I need?

Yes. Start with what you want to finance, your budget and timing. A broker can help clarify the relevant loan category, likely information and next steps before any application is lodged.

Can you help me get a loan?

We can help you understand the relevant finance pathway, prepare the useful information and compare suitable lender options. RateSmart is a broker, not a lender, so approval, amount, rate and terms remain subject to lender assessment.

How much can I borrow?

There is no single borrowing limit that applies to everyone. Lenders may consider income or business records, existing commitments, credit history, the asset, deposit and loan structure. RateSmart can discuss an indicative budget, but only a lender can confirm approval, amount, rate and terms after assessment.

Where can I see my credit history?

Australian consumers can request a free copy of their credit report from both Experian and Equifax once every three months. You can also request a free copy if you were refused credit within the past 90 days or your credit-related personal information was corrected. The two reports may contain different information.

Can I get finance if I’m currently bankrupt?

RateSmart does not currently assist applicants who are bankrupt or subject to an active insolvency arrangement. After discharge, contact us to discuss whether lender criteria may be met.

What are my repayment options?

Repayment frequency varies by lender and loan. Monthly, fortnightly or weekly direct debit may be available; confirm the schedule and total cost before accepting an offer.

What if I have been declined elsewhere?

A previous decline does not determine every future request. RateSmart can review the circumstances and explain whether another approach may be appropriate. We will explain any proposed credit enquiry before it is made.

Do you do credit history checks?

If you choose to proceed, RateSmart may review your credit history with your consent where relevant to the application. We will discuss any discrepancies with you.

Do I have to apply for a loan online?

No. You can call RateSmart on 03 8905 3731. Access to email is usually needed to send and receive documents.

What information may I need to provide?

Requirements vary by lender and request. Common starting points include identification, income or business records, existing commitments, and information about the asset or purpose. A broker confirms what is relevant before documents are requested.

Start online or call RateSmart. A broker will confirm the request and discuss suitable options. Submitting an enquiry does not lodge a credit application.
